The friction of the seal sliding against the metal surface causes the seal to wear. Oil contaminants (especially metallic particles). Excessive roughness of the metal surface, too tight installation and other factors accelerate this wear.

Causes of damage to O-rings

Gap extrusion deformation

The seal is liquefied under high pressure and enters the gap of the sealing surface. This process is facilitated by relative motion between the seal and the seal groove, with gap squeeze resulting in complete seal damage, tearing or chipping of the surface, and possible plastic deformation. Add a sealing ring to avoid extrusion.
